Due to a family emergency, the HMS Astrolabe will not be making port again until 15th May. The management apologizes for any inconvenience.
Apologies
Wallpapers
Thanks to listener Adam Morey, our little endeavor now has a wallpaper that you can place upon your very own aether-ready difference engine, should you desire. It is available in two resolutions, please choose the one that suits your needs. You can find both sized in the shiny new flickr feed. Enjoy!
After a long absence, the HMS Astrolabe finally makes port again! Steamy news for this fortnight includes items regarding Penguicon, the BUST Spring Craftacular, Costume-Con, The Silicon Valley Computer History Musem, Bazaar Bizarre, Maker Faire, and the Seattle Steamrats. Online delights include gears, vintage projects, simulated wood-grain, and the many offerings of Datamancer. This visit also contains another installment of Six Score and Twenty from Matt Wallace, a new vintage vocabulary lesson, a cautionary tale from Helljack, and a disturbing message. The salon today is a discussion with author Mur Lafferty.
Welcome back to the HMS Astrolabe! We suffered some delays in making port this time, but I hope that you will find this installment was worth the wait.
The sights available from the observation deck this week include The Clockwork Ball, Unofficial Fop Day, FreakAngels, and In Timely Fashion (being a compendium of era hairstyle instructions with photonic illustrations), and SepiaChord. Other diversions include the launch of an original flash fiction series called Six Score and Twenty by Matt Wallace, and the first of what we hope to be many sartorial lessons from Jared Axelrod.
Today’s salon is a conversation with the inestimable Magpie Killjoy of Steampunk Magazine.
Thank you for joining us!
Regrettable Delays
Greetings, adventurers! Due to unforeseen circumstances, the second episode of Steampunk Spectacular is going to be a wee bit late. It will be worthwhile, I promise you. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
Welcome aboard the HMS Astrolabe! Our metal-clad hybrid aircraft has all the modern conveniences including an automated galley, ballroom, and a fully-equipped laboratory. If you please, Maurice will show you to the lab for your meeting with Susan Z (our resident Mad Crafterix).
Following your meeting, you are welcome to take in the magnificent views afforded by a stroll on the observation deck. Of especial note are Circa Nocturna, Maker Faire, Dawanda, The Clockwork Cabaret, and a crucial article on etiquette for the jet-pack set. We will be disembarking at Transylvania Polygnostic University for a chat with Professor Foglio about Girl Genius.
Thank you for joining us.
It’s Alive!
The good and gentle people at iTunes have extended their approval to our little endeavor. The iTunes button on the lower right side is now fully functional, thus simplifying the subscription process.
Please remember, dear reader, that our first complete episode will be hitting the aetherwaves on 1st March.
Welcome To The Lab
This is Episode 0 of the new podcast. I like to think of Episode 0 as an amuse-bouche, a little morsel to whet your appetite and give you a hint of delights yet to come. Future episodes will be released on the 1st and the 15th of the month.
